A Season of Celebrations

Louise Jacobs
What a summer this is going to be!
What a summer this is going to be!
While sports enthusiasts will be looking forward to London becoming the
Olympic capital of the world in July, there is a great deal more going on across
the City to make this a summer to remember. A special season of cultural
activities will accompany the Olympics and the LJCC will be playing its part.
2102 is the centenary of Anna Pavlova making Ivy House her home. She was
a remarkable, talented woman and her influence on the arts and the world of
dance is very much alive. The LJCC will be honouring her legacy with Pavlova
2012 (http://www.ljcc.org.uk/events/genre/56-pavlova-2012.html), a number
of special events including workshops, talks and performances, highlighting her
continuing inspiration. We know it will attract ballet enthusiasts from across the
globe as we receive visits and calls every week from her fans.
‘An Intimate Evening with Anna Pavlova at the Royal Opera House’ on Sunday
17th June (http://www.ljcc.org.uk/events/2091-i-an-intimate-evening-with-
anna-pavlova-i-br-at-the-linbury-studio-theatre-royal-opera-house-covent-
garden.html) and ‘Dance for a Day’ (http://www.ljcc.org.uk/events/2092-dance-
for-a-day-the-fairy-doll.html) are just two highlights of the programme.
Queen Elizabeth II is also celebrating her extraordinary life of service and
achievement. Our Pavlova 2012 exhibition of archive photographs and
memorabilia will become part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Bank
Holiday Monday 4th June. We will be opening Ivy House to the community as
part of the City of London Corporation and the Borough of Barnet festivities.
Over 10,000 people are expected to gather in Golders Hill Park for an amazing
day of performances, picnics, beacon lighting and fireworks late into the night.
We are delighted to participate and to offer our kosher café facilities to the
Jewish community visiting the Park.
And, our new summer programme is coming out in the next few weeks, with
the widest range of courses, events and activities for you to enjoy, including
Gefiltefest, the Jewish Food Festival, and the announcement of our second
Community Art Fair, Art House. If you are not on our mailing list and would like
to be added, please email admin@ljcc.org.uk with your details.
We look forward to welcoming you to a memorable summer.Whil
