The course will cover the origins and history of the Jews in China (Kaifeng, Harbin and Shanghai), India (Bene Israel and Cochin Jews), Japan and Singapore, Iran, Iraq and Falasha Jews in Ethiopia. How did they interact with the surrounding population, did they encounter anti-Semitism, did they assimilate or leave their host countries? What happened to them in the 20th century and why?
