Using Israel Zangwill’s 1908 play The Melting Pot, as the focus of our discussion, this course will explore the 100 year history of cultural pluralism. What is cultural pluralism or multiculturalism? When and why did the concept emerge? Has the theory proven successful in practice? Is it time to consider another way of organising diversity in society? What are the alternatives?
