Anglo-Jewry has a well-deserved reputation for successfully avoiding the bitter controversies and splits that plagued Jewish communities elsewhere.
This course examines 6 exceptions to that rule - when the community was split by big internal differences on important theological, political, religious and philosophical issues. Jonathan Wolfson investigates the background and consequences of these “Big British Broigeses”, giving us a clearer understanding of the ongoing issues that face the Jewish community.

Tue 3rd July - How to fight the Fascists in the 1930s
Tue 10th July - The Jacobs Affair
Tue 17th July - The Anglo-Jewish Experience - the historical debate
Jonathan Wolfson lectures regularly on modern Jewish History and Philosophy at numerous venues including LSJS, synagogue adult education programs and regional and national Limmud conferences. He has an MA in History, M.Phil. in International Relations and PhD. in Modern History all from the University of Cambridge. He works as an IT Consultant in the City specializing in writing derivatives pricing and risk management systems.
