The Art of Hebrew Calligraphy

Students learn and/or develop skills in Hebrew
Calligraphy and Illumination, and explore colour
and design working with ink, paint and gold
leaf on their own projects; such as illuminated
letters, words and / or Hebrew or Yiddish texts.
Inspiration may be drawn from old manuscripts
and contemporary sources. Texts may include
Haggadah poetry, the Song of Songs, Hebrew
poetry from Spain and Yiddish poems and texts.
Midrash and legends related to Hebrew letters
are introduced. Knowledge of Hebrew and
previous art/calligraphy experience are not
essential. Beginners as well as advanced students
are welcome. Students progress at their own
rate and work on texts of their choice, in a
relaxed and supportive atmosphere.
