Ruth Padel is a prizewinning poet, writer and broadcaster. She will be talking about and reading from her first novel Where the Serpent Lives (Little Brown, February 2010). Set over one year in London, Devon and the jungles of India, it is a brilliantly woven meditation on motherhood, marriage and our relations with the natural world. The event will include a question and answer session.
Ruth's past works include Darwin: A Life in Poems, a much-praised biography in lyric poems of her great-great-grandfather Charles Darwin and Tigers in Red Weather, a highly acclaimed book on tiger conservation for which she explored tiger forests throughout Asia. She is Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and Zoological Society of London and currently Resident Poet at Christ's College, Cambridge.
