Krakow: 17-21 March 2008 - SOLD OUT

MAR
Join us on our annual trip to Krakow, where, each year, tour leader, Jerold Gotel, reads the Megillah in the ancient Remu Synagogue. Our group will stay in Kazimierz, the old Jewish quarter, which was not destroyed in the war, as we attempt to recreate the cultural life that was lost. The trip will include a visit to Auschwitz – Birkenau. Tour leaders: Trudy Gold, Jerold Gotel and Lionel Unterhalter

Before World War II, Krakow had a substantial Jewish population, living mainly
in the Kaziemierz district. During the war, the Germans made Krakow the HQ
for the General Government. Unlike other Polish cities, there was little destruction so the Jewish quarter remains virtually intact, giving a real insight into pre-war Jewish life despite the loss of its Jewish inhabitants.

We will visit Jewish sites and places of interest in Krakow and learn the history
and story of those who lived there. The trip will include an optional visit to the World Heritage Wielicza Salt Mine and one full day will be dedicated to a tour
of Auschwitz-Birkenau and the small Synagogue/ Museum in the nearby town
of Oswicium. Purim falls while we are in Krakow and you are invited to join in
our Megillah reading at the wonderful Remuh Synagogue. A pre-tour seminar will be held at Ivy House shortly before departure.

The London Jewish Cultural Centre has many years of experience conducting tours to Eastern Europe. Our previous visits to Krakow have been memorable for the participants and we are repeating it once again, in response to public demand.

Jerold Gotel, Senior Lecturer in Jewish History and our Director of Overseas Operations will be leading this outstanding tour together with Chief executive and Senior Historian Trudy Gold and tour co-ordinator Lionel Unterhalter.

The cost is £675 per person sharing (single supplement £60 extra) which includes the pre tour seminar, 3* accommodation in the heart of Kaziemierz with buffet breakfasts, economy return flights, airport transfers to and from the hotel, Purim dinner, entrances to places of interest, including coach and tour costs to Wielicza Salt Mine, Auschwitz and within Krakow. Other meals are not included. We recommend strongly that you take out suitable travel insurance which can be arranged through West End Travel Ltd (020 7629 6299), ATOL 938, the travel company has appointed us their agent for this tour.
