What does the well known phrase ‘Catch 22’ really mean? What is the origin of Joseph Heller’s unusually named hero Yossarian? Why is the novel, which took eight years to contemplate and another eight years to complete, a tragi-comic masterpiece?

Bernard will explore the structure, content and style of this book which was stimulated by the author‘s combat experience in World War II as a bombardier in the US Airforce. He will try to throw some light on the above questions and other features of the novel and also re-evaluate it in the context of Heller’s lesser known work.
