Walking tour around the Olympic site with Blue Badge guide, Mark King
Once known for its bleak, post-industrial landscape, today the area around the Olympic Park has started to blossom.
Venues, accommodation and infrastructure are in place for next summer's Olympic and Paralympic Games, the world's largest and second-largest sports events. Just 114 days to go!
As Spring arrives, the brown, newly-cleaned soil will start turning a lush green, before becoming the setting for golds, silvers and bronzes, along with all the colours of the rainbow in the 205 flags of athletes from around the world.
On this guided walk led by 2012 venues-accredited Blue Badge guide, Mark King you'll enjoy great views of the impressive landscaping and spectacular structures on and around the Olympic Park, including:
* Olympic Stadium
* Basketball Arena
* Olympic Village
* Velodrome
* Aquatics Centre
* International Broadcast Centre and Main Press Centre
* Arcelor Mittal Orbit viewing platform
* Westfield Stratford City
Hear about legends and heroes in a tradition spreading back to 8th century BCE. Learn how this part of East London has been transformed into an impressive model for urban regeneration. Experience up close what ‘legacy’ will mean for us Londoners and for the UK.
*2.30pm start from the entrance to Leyton station on the Central line - just 14 mins. from Bank Tube station. Walk lasts approx. two hours and (subject to engineering works) will end at Pudding Mill Lane DLR station (17 mins. to Bank, 2 mins. to Stratford). IMPORTANT: please check for planned engineering works affecting the Tube and DLR at: www.tfl.gov.uk
Please note that for security reasons this tour is not permitted on to the Olympic Park itself.
