Paintings by Ela Ward

The London Jewish Cultural Centre is proud to exhibit this series of paintings by 18 year old Ela Ward, a former student of King Solomon High School.

Over the past 3 years, LJCC’s FUSION Department has worked closely with King Solomon High School offering a number of special activities including workshops on the subject of Holocaust & Genocide. Fusion’s vision is to inspire and engage young people by offering them a platform to develop their creativity. Therefore when we were approached by the art department of the school about this very talented student, we were happy to organise a display of her work.

Ela Ward is currently studying Painting at Nottingham Trent University. She was born in Tel Aviv in 1993 but spent her childhood in Eilat. She came to live in Chigwell at the age of 11 and entered King Solomon High School.

This series of works, which Ela created for her A Level art exam, were inspired by her childhood in Israel and her Jewish roots. Her interest in her background intensified after a trip to Poland with her school where she visited towns and communities where Jewish people had once thrived. She also visited Auschwitz. She writes ‘I think it is important that each new generation ensures that the atrocities of the Holocaust are still spoken about and not forgotten. This is something I try to do in my work.’

This exhibition has been organised as part of London Jewish Cultural Centre’s annual commemoration of the Holocaust to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
