Lisa Jewell and Tamar Cohen discuss how, in their most recent novels, past events have a huge impact on the present and the future.

Before I Met You, by bestselling author Lisa Jewell, is a heart-breaking and poignant story of two women, separated by seventy years but linked by a shared determination to make their dreams come true.

Freelance journalist and writer, Tamar Cohen’s The War of the Wives, tells how a telephone call turns the heroine’s world upside down; her husband is dead, she goes to the funeral and comes face to face with his other widow.

Lisa Jewell left school with 6 'O' Levels and studied art and design at Barnet College where she discovered hair dye and that she couldn't draw. She went on to Epsom School of Art and Design to study Fashion Illustration and Promotion and joined the cut-throat, unbelievably silly world of fashion. Made redundant in 1993 and after 15 years of distractions and diversion, Lisa rediscovered her first love and her only talent – writing. Her first novel, Ralph's Party, was the bestselling debut of 1999 and she has since written Thirtynothing, One-Hit Wonder, Vince & Joy, A Friend of the Family, 31 Dream Street, The Truth About Melody Browne and After the Party, all of which have been Sunday Times bestsellers. She was also a judge for 2009’s Costa First Novel Award.

Tamar Cohen is a freelance journalist who lives in London with her partner and three teenage children. Her first novel was the acclaimed The Mistress's Revenge. Her new novel The War of the Wives is a controversial rollercoaster!
