Even when much of 19th century art was most out of fashion the colourful paintings and no less colourful lives of the Pre-Raphaelites continued to maintain a powerful hold over the affections of the British public.
The forthcoming exhibition at Tate Britain will attempt to present a new version of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and its followers – not as much-loved Victorian sentimentalists but as rebels and revolutionaries in tune with and even anticipating many of the most radical aspects of early Modernism.
Prepare yourself for this benchmark exhibition by coming to a “Know Before You Go” talk at the LJCC given by Patrick Bade.
