GOOD & EVIL Monday 15th September
SEM001
| MON |

| SEP |
Morning 10.30-12.30
Trudy Gold
The Enlightenment and Romanticism
Are we creatures of reason? Are there universal truths? This presentation will look at the impact of the clash between the Enlightenment and Romanticism and its impact on moral conscience.
Afternoon 2.00-3.30
David D'Avray
Evil and Irrationality
Much of the Jewish history is a story of evils suffered. Simplistic explanations for this include evil ideologies that directly caused persecution. A more careful analysis will try to distinguish between evils derived directly from world views and those that are dressed up in ideological language but might need to be explained partly in terms of irrationalities. The history of the blood libel makes a good case study.
Sandwich lunch is included
